چکیده

The long-term effects on solidification/stabilization (s/s) of the secondary wastes, resulting from the oxidative degradation of some solid cellulosic-based wastes, in Portland Cement (CEM I) have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (X-RD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The effect of seven years leaching of the cemented waste forms obtained was carried out to assess the long-term immobilization behavior of the radionuclide in the solidified/stabilized waste that maybe exposed to fresh, ground or sea water. The results of this study confirm our previously published work that the oxidative degradation treatment of some cellulosic-based wastes is essential before incorporating into the cementitious inert matrix. In addition, the release of radionuclides from the cemented waste form is a diffusion controlling process, after the first washing out period lasting for nearly thirty days. Based on the results so far obtained it is concluded that Portland Cement could be considered as a potential inert matrix to immobilize the degraded cellulosic-based wastes for a short or long time of storage or a final disposal.

Modelling the effects of waste components on cement hydration.

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is often used for the solidification/stabilization (S/S) of waste containing heavy metals and salts. These waste components will precipitate in the form of insoluble compounds on to unreacted cement clinker grains preventing further hydration. In this study the long term effects of the presence of contaminants in solidified waste is examined by numerically simulat...

Cementation of Radioactive Waste from a Pwr with Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement

Spent radioactive ion-exchange resin (SIER) and evaporation concentrates are radioactive wastes that are produced at by pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power stations. Borate, which is used as a retardent for cement, is also present as a moderator in a PWR, therefore, borate will be present in both ion-exchange resins and evaporation concentrates. In this study the use of Calcium sulfoa...

Cellulose Nanofibers as a Modifier for Rheology, Curing and Mechanical Performance of Oil Well Cement

The influence of nanocellulose on oil well cement (OWC) properties is not known in detail, despite recent advances in nanocellulose technology and its related composite materials. The effect of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) on flow, hydration, morphology, and strength of OWC was investigated using a range of spectroscopic methods coupled with rheological modelling and strength analysis. The Vom-B...

Mortar composite based on wet oxidative degraded cellulosic spinney waste fibers

Textile industry has become an essential part of modern society, and waste production is an inevitable outcome of the developmental activities. Present paper outlines a direct approach toward a real problem of managing spinney waste fibers generated during textile industry. Simultaneously, shortage in landfill disposal space is another trouble associated with dumping of these hazardous wastes. ...
